RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

The ISS Radio Communications engineering group provides network engineering support for SPAWAR SSC-C's Joint Tactical Radio Systems, Joint GIG-TEN,  and legacy wireless programs.

Joint Tactical Radio Systems
The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) is a new communications capability used by the Navy. JTRS is a multi-band, multi-mode, software defined radio that provides a programmable, reconfigurable communications capability with ad hoc, mobile networking and the crossbanding capabilities at the tactical edge. JTRS is based on commercial open standards architecture that helps keep the cost in check. ISS Engineers provide support services for the Airborne, Maritime, and Fixed Station JTRS. In addition, ISS engineers support the Networking Enterprise Domain Test and Evaluation programs, which includes tasks for waveform portability, hardware development, and earned value management. SRC indirectly supports the JTRS Joint Program Executive Office System Engineering.

Joint GIG-TEN
SRC Engineers provide support to SSC-C's Network Operating Center that includes providing research, trouble shooting issues, in-lab engineering support, and recommendations for network changes and equipment specifications. SRC engineers provide on-board, in-service support of network services in addition to Information Assurance & Vulnerability Assessment (IAVA) for repairs or fleet router upgrades. SRC engineers operate a lab for system mock-ups and evaluations to resolve repairs or fleet router issues. SRC engineers also conduct on-site trouble shooting, upgrades, and configuration management in support of IAVA repairs or router upgrade issues. SRC engineers also provide Program Management support to SSC-C for the NOC.

Transport Test & Integration Complex
SRC engineers support the Transport Test and Integration Complex (TTIC), a laboratory for testing new systems or changes to the Naval communications infrastructures. The TTIC simulates afloat, mobile, and shore communications systems on both the East and West coasts using test and developmental labs. Proposed systems and designs are thoroughly tested in the TTIC, which provides a robust simulated operational environment. This approach uncovers potential design flaws in planned changes or equipment upgrades prior to installations on board Navy vessels.
SRC  supports the Laboratory's efforts and develops applicable test plans, which encompass Modeling and Simulations, Data Collection and Analysis.
