Space and Missile Defense Command - Engineers for the Army's Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) is engaged in designing a national missile defense system to meet the President's mandate. The design process includes the utilization of numerous super-computing facilities located around the country. SMDC and their Simulation Center provide supercomputer support for many of the projects under the newly re-designated Missile Defense Agency. The Simulation Center is a Government owned, contractor operated facility that provides high performance computing capabilities for missile simulation and modeling of supporting technologies such as computational fluid dynamics. SRC's IT professionals are responsible for all aspects of system maintenance from user support to system upgrades. The center is utilized by personnel located across the country through a mesh of interconnected networks.
The Simulation Center support includes computer operations, network support, operating system administrators, security specialists, and senior high performance computing experts. SRC works with the prime to provide a seamless team to support both the customer and center users. SRC provides network and system specialists that manage the center, its supporting networks, and all aspects of network security. The Simulation Center is also responsible for the outside connections to fifteen companies that use the Simulation Center and the OC-3 (155 Mbits) connection to the Defense Research and Engineering Network. In addition, SRC also provides the network to support the staff and user workstation areas.
Air Force Distributed Mission Operation Center (DMOC) - SRC's IT initiatives are not limited to traditional activities such as help desk support and system maintenance. The company also provides personnel with expertise in unique military equipment. This is most evident in our support of the Air Force DMOC located in Albuquerque, NM. This facility possesses the largest operator-in-the-loop simulation capabilities in the world. Systems under SRC management include F-15 cockpit simulators, AWACS mockups, JSTARS simulators, Patriot missile battery simulators, Joint Tactical Information Distribution System simulators, Army communications equipment simulations, and numerous mainframe computers. In addition to providing traditional maintenance support for these systems, SRC personnel plan, participate, and monitor training exercises conducted at the facility. The sophistication of the simulation is such that participants located in mockup rooms can detect little or no difference in their simulated monitors and screens versus the data they are provided in an actual battle environment. Indeed, the facility often augments field exercises by providing simulated threats, aircraft, and missile systems.
