SRC’s state-of-the-art Wireless Ad Hoc Routing Protocol (MobileRoute®) software frees wireless networks from the constraints of a fixed infrastructure. MobileRoute® technology provides for the rapid deployment of flexible, cost-effective and robust broadband networks. MobileRoute® furthermore allows for full user mobility that once required an expensive array of base stations.

MobileRoute® achieves these goals by turning each wireless device into an intelligent router that can relay data for other subscribers. The devices themselves become the network infrastructure. Thus, each subscriber only needs to be able to communicate with one other subscriber; there is no need for every subscriber to be able to reach a cellular tower or base station. This approach is called a “Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET)” and provides a high level of reliability and performance because multiple routes will often exist between communication endpoints, just as in the wired Internet.

MobileRoute® provides an ideal solution to support mobile users where a fixed infrastructure is infeasible or undesirable due to time, space, or budget constraints. Wireless devices equipped with MobileRoute provide true “instant-on” networking capability – a subscriber’s device becomes a full member of the MANET seconds after powering on. Similarly, the MANET quickly recovers from nodes that become unavailable.

MobileRoute® also provides Quality of Service (QoS) routing. Data may be routed along a path that provides high reliability, minimizes battery usage, or optimizes one of many other QoS criteria.
