DATA SHEET
WHITEPAPER

Due to the transmission expense and the right-of-way issues of installing fiber optic cable in the last mile links to their customers, many Network Integrators are augmenting traditional wireline networks with line of sight (LOS) wireless links. This hybrid network design provides for the rapid deployment of cost-effective high-speed multimedia services. Unfortunately, LOS wireless links do not fit seamlessly into today's multimedia oriented networks because switches and routers ignore the complexities of the wireless link, such as fluctuating bit error rate (BER). As a result, the performance of the end-to-end communications path is degraded. SRC provides a solution, based on patented technology, for unifying the network domain and the wireless domain into a seamless communications path. This solution is TurboLink® 1000C.

TurboLink® 1000C bridges the gap between traditional high-data-rate network technology and non-network based radio technology. TurboLink® 1000C provides an interface conversion between ATM and synchronous serial devices such as modems or radios. TurboLink® 1000C also provides improved performance for ATM traffic over a wireless communication channel through the incorporation of Forward Error Correction (FEC). TurboLink® 1000C also provides priority queuing to traffic designated by the administrator. When priority queuing is enabled, the designated traffic is processed and transmitted first ("priority service"). The remainder of the traffic is treated as "best effort" traffic and is processed and transmitted after the "priority service" traffic.

Features

  • Uses patented technology.
  • Provides reliable transmission of data with link BER as low as 10-3 through the use of FEC.
  • Provides priority queuing to designated traffic streams.
  • Provides standard synchronous serial RS-530 (DTE) interface to the radio.
  • Provides standard multimode OC-3 interface to the ATM network.
  • Supports data rates from 2.4 kbps to 8.448 Mbps on the serial interface
