Intelligence in this case means determining the enemy's position, identification, and intentions allowing the warfighter to maintain knowledge superiority of the battle space in order to sustain, control, and attack targets. Cryptologic systems are a class of intelligence systems that target enemy communications systems and often use encrypted information. Threat warning systems are another type of intelligence system that are typically used for identifying where enemy communicators are located and to what extent their level of knowledge will impact a specific mission. Along with communications signals, threat warning systems also identify enemy radar systems to determine if American forces have been detected.
